APHRODITE AUTOGENESIS 1995
The artist has stated that he was thinking about spontaneous materialisation, when he created this. 20 years on, Elliott's pioneering computer masterpieces, stand timeless and supreme. They were described by the Times as 'stunning images'. Certain computer processing engines became available mid NIneties which are just no longer there, so this image would be impossible today. Just as the original Moog synthesiser had a unique sound of its own, which you just don't hear today, so certain imaging solutions are very much lost to time. The artist must sieze them and use them whilst they are there. The image mixes the concept of spontaneous materialisation with the myth of Aphrodite. In the original myth, Aphrodite rose up from the sea on a shell, the water droplets falling from her body turned to pearls - hence the hybrid 'atomic pearls'.
